Telecommunications giant T-Mobile recently purchased the naming rights to Safeco Field; home of Major League Baseball’s Seattle Mariners. The naming rights agreement was T-Mobile’s second such agreement after securing the naming rights for T-Mobile Arena, home of the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights. With the 2019 MLB season quickly approaching, the Seattle Mariners are removing the Safeco signage from the stadium to make room for the T-Mobile signage.

At the moment, the T-Mobile Park signage is still being professionally fabricated by Tube Art Group, a local company. Not only did Tube Art Group design the original signage for Safeco Field when it opened in 1998 but the company has also created signage for Amazon and Starbuck’s. Various news media professionals were able to get a first glimpse of the magenta signage which is currently being prepped at a warehouse in Yakima, Washington. The magenta T-Mobile colors will certainly stand out from the other structures in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood including CenturyLink Field down the street, home of the Seattle Seahawks.

The T-Mobile Park signage will range from anywhere between 4 to 13 feet per letter. The signage will be complimented with background hues that will enable the letters to change colors for special occasions such as home games on the 4th of July. As pedestrians and drivers saw the Safeco Field signage being removed from the stadium, the Seattle Mariners began receiving inquiries from fans that wanted to purchase the signs as collector’s items. Most of the aluminum Safeco signs are expected to be recycled. All exterior T-Mobile signs are expected to be completely installed by March 22.

The Seattle Mariners recently extended their lease with the Washington State Major League Baseball Public Facilities District through 2043. The agreement will pay the Seattle Mariners $87.5M by the time the naming rights agreement expires in 2043. Other recent additions to T-Mobile Park include the addition of a new netting system and a donut bar on the main level concourse. The Seattle Mariners will host the Boston Red Sox on March 28, 2019 to kick off the 2019 season.
