To give you an idea what the view of the ice is like from section 318, here is a Youtube video shot from there before a Kings/Dallas Stars game at the Staples Center.
As long as you stick with the sideline seats, the upper levels aren't bad for basketball or hockey at the Staples Center. It's the corners and endzones that give this level a bad reputation.
318 is dead center ice where your eyes can follow the puck with ease. Watching the Kings from the top level is completely different than watching them from the bottom level. From the bottom level, you can see and hear all of the hard hits so much better. Especially if you sit in the corners.
At the top level, you've just got a great view of the ice and nothing else. You may not be a hockey fan that has to be next to the glass to enjoy the game and if you are one of those fans, you'll like section 318.
