Where To Sit At Tropicana Field

Tropicana Field is one of the smallest ballparks in Major League Baseball. It is also widely considered to be the worst ballpark in Major League Baseball. For starters, the stadium is located in St. Petersburg, Florida and sits a good 30-40 minutes from Tampa Bay, Florida. Tropicana Field is also a domed stadium without a retractable roof meaning baseball fans are unable to enjoy the beautiful Tampa weather during the summer months. Tropicana Field also has catwalks on the interior near the ceiling that often interfere with home runs during games. If you’ve seen Tampa Bay Rays games on television, you’ve likely noticed how discolored the turf on the field looks as well. And to top things off, Rays home games are often boring because the fan base only gets behind the team during the playoffs.

Our staff wanted to provide a thorough breakdown of the Tropicana Field seating chart so that fans will have a better idea about where to sit before purchasing tickets. The first thing to know about the Tropicana Field seating chart is that the sections are not numbered in a sequence you’re used to. All of the odd-numbered sections are located down the third base side. All of the even-numbered sections are located down the first base side. Double-lettered rows will always sit further from the field than the single-lettered rows. Also, keep in mind that the names of the seating areas at Tropicana Field could change and often vary from season to season. We'll begin with the Dem Imaging Home Plate Club.

Dex Imaging Home Plate Club

The Dex Imaging Home Plate Club seats are the most expensive seats at Tropicana Field and include the earlier rows of sections 103, 104, 107, and 108. The rows for sections 107 and 108 are lettered D through J. The rows for sections 103 and 104 are lettered E through J.

The perks for the Dex Imaging Home Plate Club at Tropicana Field include

Rays Club

The Rays Club seats are located down the first base side of Tropicana Field on the mezzanine level and just below the suites. The Rays Club seats consist of rows PP through TT of sections 106-126. The perks for the Rays Club seats at Tropicana Field include

A waitstaff that will bring your food and drinks to your seats during the game
Access to the Rays Club Lounge and dining areas
Comfortable leather seating with more legroom
Flat screen televisions are located throughout the area

Fieldside Box

The fieldside box seats include the earliest rows of sections 101 through 126 (excluding the Dex Imaging Home Plate Club sections). The first row for the fieldside box sections behind each dugout will be row K. The first row for all other fieldside box sections will be row B.

The perks for the fieldside box seats at Tropicana Field include

Complimentary parking for season ticket holders
Comfortable padded seats
Prime viewing location near each team’s dugout

Like the other 29 Major League Baseball stadiums, the Tampa Bay Rays have added additional netting to better protect fans from objects leaving the field. The new netting system will sit in front of sections 101 through 118 surrounding the infield. To put it more simply, the new netting system will stretch from the end of one dugout to the next.

Lower Box

The lower box seats at Tropicana Field are set at three different price points; regular lower box, lower infield box and lower box preferred. The regular lower box seats include sections

107 (Rows PP through XX)
109 (Rows PP through XX)
111 (Rows PP through XX)
113 (Rows PP through XX)
115 (Rows PP through XX)
117 (Rows PP through XX)
119 (Rows PP through XX)
121 (Rows PP through XX)
123 (Rows B through II, PP through XX)
124 (Rows B through II)
125 (Rows B through II, PP through XX)
126 (Rows B through II)
127 (Rows A through II, PP through XX)
128 (Rows A through II, PP through XX)

The Tampa Bay Rays use the dugout in front of sections 112 through 118 on the first base side. The visiting team uses the dugout in front of sections 111 through 117 on the third base side.

Lower Infield Box

The lower infield box seats include the middle rows of sections 101 through 120.

Lower Box Preferred

The lower box preferred sections include the later rows of sections 101 through 122. If I were going to Tropicana Field tomorrow, these would be the seats I would select. They’re close to the infield with a great panoramic of the stadium and are fairly affordable tickets.

Press Level

The press level seats at Tropicana Field include sections 203 through 224 and offers what many fans consider to be the best views of the field in the entire stadium. The rows for nearly all of the press level sections will be lettered A through G. The press level also offers two group seating areas; the press level party area and the press level patio. The press level patio is ideal for 150 people or more and offers complimentary food through the fifth inning. The press level party area is ideal for groups of 35 or more people and is located in a private area down the right field line. If you like small sections, you'll love the press level.

Upper Level

The upper level seats at Tropicana Field include sections 300 through 322. The rows for the upper level sections will greatly vary in how they’re lettered. The rows will begin with rows A through Z and will be followed by double-lettered rows. As a rule of thumb, avoid all double-lettered rows on the upper level of Tropicana Field when browsing for tickets on StubHub. Believe it or not, the catwalk will obstruct your view of the field from some seats on the upper level. Plus, lower level tickets are so inexpensive these days, fans almost have no reason to sit up there unless it’s Opening Day or the Playoffs.

Outfield

The outfield seats at Tropicana Field include sections 139 through 150. Row T will be the first row in all outfield sections. The single-lettered rows will be followed by double-lettered rows. Row II is the last row in most outfield sections.

As you already know, the outfield sections are the best seats to catch home runs at Tropicana Field. You’re also in close proximity to the iconic stingray tank in centerfield where fans can touch live stingrays; also called the “Rays Touch Experience”. Behind the touch tank is the “Hitter’s Hall of Fame” which pays tribute to legendary MLB players of the past. The Hitter’s Hall of Fame is also free to visit on gameday.

Lower Corners

The lower corner sections at Tropicana Field include sections 129 through 138. The number of rows in each section will greatly vary in this seating area. Row G will typically be the first row in these sections. The closer your seats are to row XX, the closer you’ll be to the back of the section. They’re also the sections where fans will encounter the most foul balls during games. Keep in mind that the lower corner sections at Tropicana Field sit further back from the field than most Major League Baseball stadiums because of the bullpens and two on-field party areas; 162 Landing and the Papa John’s Bullpen Box (see below).

Tbt Party Deck

The Tbt Party Deck is located in the upper-left part of the outfield at Tropicana Field and includes sections 341 through 355. Most of the rows on the Tbt Party Deck will be lettered A through H, so they’re very small sections. Tickets for this seating area are inexpensive since they sit so far from home plate. However, the occasional home run ball will reach the Party Deck; especially when hit by a right-handed batter.

Behind the Party Deck is an open concourse where fans can visit the concession stands and still see the game. This area was revamped circa 2014 and rebranded. All fans with tickets to the game will have access to the Tbt Party Deck so be sure to check it out when you visit Tropicana Field!

162 Landing

162 Landing is located in left field and is an on-field party area at Tropicana Field. The area is named after the famous 162^nd game that sent the Tampa Bay Rays to the MLB playoffs during the 2011 season. At the moment, Seminole Hard Rock Tampa has partnered with the Rays and have purchased the naming rights to the area. 162 Landing is located next to the visiting team’s bullpen and can accommodate between 75 and 136 guests.

Papa John’s Bullpen Box

The Papa John’s Bullpen Box is an on-field party area located in right field of Tropicana Field. The area can accommodate between 75 and 136 guests and is located adjacent to the Tampa Bay Rays bullpen. Both 162 Landing and the Papa John’s Bullpen Box are areas that see their share of foul balls during games.

Left Field Terrace

The left field terrace is located in deep left field near the left field foul pole and offers all of the same perks that suite holders have. The left field terrace is able to accommodate between 40 and 80 people. To learn more about booking one of these group party areas at Tropicana Field, please visit MLB.com/Rays.

The Tampa Bay Rays currently use a digital ticketing system that allows fans to purchase tickets on RaysBaseball.com and have their tickets delivered to their smart phone and scanned upon entry to Tropicana Field.

As you already know, the bullpens at Tropicana Field are located on both sides of the field. The Tampa Bay Rays pitchers use the bullpen in front of section 128. The visiting team uses the bullpen in front of section 127. Outside of Tropicana Field, the entertainment pre and post-game can be found at the Grand Central District on Central Avenue. There, you’ll find Ferg’s Sports Bar which is the most happening place in the neighborhood. The Tampa Bay Rays are currently trying to secure a site in the Tampa metro area to build a new stadium. Securing the funding needed to build a new stadium appears to be the largest hurdle. There are whispers that the new Tampa Bay Rays stadium will be built in Ybor City.
