View of the Scoreboard at Coors Field, Home of the Colorado Rockies

Coors Field has long been considered one of the groundbreaking stadiums in the new era of Major League ballparks. The venue will get an upgrade in 2018 when the Colorado Rockies organization add a massive 8,300 square foot scoreboard that will feature nearly 7 million LEDs. The scoreboard will be 2 and ½ times larger than the Rockies’ current scoreboard which was installed only ten years ago.

The scoreboard will also be shaped like the state of Colorado and will slightly resemble the team’s logo with a mountain cutout. Daktronics, a technology display company based in South Dakota, will design the scoreboard and help with installation. Other improvements that will be made to Coors Field include

  • Renovation of the home team’s clubhouse.
  • Renovation of the club level and it’s concessions.
  • Upgrading the ballpark’s control room technology to HD1080P.
  • Upgrading the current sound system.

The Colorado Rockies recently signed a 30-year, $200 million lease extension with Coors Field and the Metropolitan Baseball Stadium District. By that time, Coors Field will be one of the oldest ballparks in Major League Baseball.
