Black and white exterior photo of Chicago Stadium.

Chicago Stadium was the historic home to the NBA's Chicago Bulls from 1967-1994 and the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks from 1929 to 1994. Chicago Stadium was also nicknamed the "Madhouse on Madison" due to the crowd noise, some say it was the loudest arena in professional sports at the time. The noise levels were so high because of the structure of the building with it's tight seats and boxed in design. The old Barton organ that played throughout games was also situated at upper center court and many speculate this contributed to the crowd noise. Many Chicago sports fans can confirm that the United Center, current home of the Bulls and Blackhawks, is no where near as loud as the Chicago Stadium.

The old organ now belongs to the Maloof Family in one of their personal homes, owners of the Sacramento Kings. Chicago Stadium also had the very last analog clock used in the National Hockey League (pictured below). The stadium was demolished in 1995 and converted into a parking lot for the United Center. There is a plaque commemorating Chicago Stadium behind the Stan Mikita and Bobby Hull statues on the north end of the United Center. The Michael Jordan statue "The Spirit" in located outside of Gate 5 at the United Center.

The first Blackhawks home game at Chicago Stadium was played on December 15th, 1929 vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates (now defunct). The final Blackhawks home game at Chicago Stadium was played on April 28th, 1994 vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs. The first Bulls home game at Chicago Stadium was played on October 17th, 1967 vs. the Los Angeles Lakers. The final Bulls home game at Chicago Stadium was played on May 20th, 1994 vs the New York Knicks

Our staff wanted to give Chicago sports fans the opportunity to travel back in time and relive some old Bulls and Blackhawks memories at Chicago Stadium. Enjoy!
