The NHL’s Anaheim Ducks and the City of Anaheim have renewed their partnership for an additional 25 years. The new agreement will keep the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center through at least the 2048 NHL season; the original agreement was set to expire in 2023. After 2048, a total of 5 five-year extensions are also on the table for both parties.

The Anaheim Ducks are owned by Henry & Susan Samueli. The Honda Center is owned by the City of Anaheim and operated by Anaheim Arena Management, LLC. Under the new agreement, the City of Anaheim will sell three Honda Center parking lots and an additional nearby lot to Anaheim Arena Management, LLC. Those lots will be converted into a mixed-use development district that will include retail, office space, and residential living. The city of Anaheim will also receive more revenue generated from events at the Honda Center.

The Anaheim Ducks organization first proposed a new lease agreement back in October. The proposal followed Major League Baseball's Los Angeles Angels abruptly opting out of their lease with Angel Stadium of Anaheim. There is a possibility that the Los Angeles Angels will relocate if the team is unable to get a new stadium constructed in Orange County. Angel Stadium of Anaheim is located in close proximity to the Honda Center and is currently the fourth oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball. With the construction of a new mixed-use development district, the Los Angeles Angels will likely attempt to build a new stadium in the area, which is known as the Platinum Triangle.

Other terms that were mentioned in the new lease extension proposal included the following.

  • Anaheim Arena Management, LLC will assume operations and responsibility for the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC).
  • The creation of a profit-sharing agreement that provides 60% of ARTIC profits to the city of Anaheim and 40% to Anaheim Arena Management, LLC.
  • The addition of a new digital advertising sign on the 57 Freeway at ARTIC.
