The Oakland Athletics have been playing at Oakland Coliseum since 1968 and have spent the last several years lobbying for the construction of a new stadium. Out of left field (no pun intended), the team will be adding a 10,000 square foot party area where the left field bleachers used to be. The area will be called “The Treehouse” and will consist of an indoor bar, a bar and lounge on an outdoor terrace as well as a patio deck.

Additional features include a wall of HD televisions, a standing room area with drink rails and an area for pre and post-game entertainment. Both NBC Sports California and the A’s Radio Network will be utilizing the entertainment area before and after every Athletics home game. The outdoor patio will be made of beautiful redwood and fans will be able to access the area as soon as they enter the stadium on the BART side of Oakland Coliseum. During every Friday night home game, a DJ will be spinning music for fans. The indoor bar area will also offer foosball and ping pong tables. All fans will be able to access The Treehouse during games although the space will have a capacity of 1,000 fans.

The NFL’s Oakland Raiders also share Oakland Coliseum with the Athletics but will be relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada in the next few years. The relocation of the Raiders may give the Athletics organization more flexibility with the improvements they can make to the stadium? However, the money spent on this project makes you wonder what the small market Oakland Athletics are thinking while also pursuing a new stadium. Maybe they’re hoping the party area will help generate more revenue? Regardless, the addition of The Treehouse is guaranteed to be more popular than the addition of Mt. Davis.
