Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company has accepted a $35 million incentive to relocate their headquarters to nearby Stanly County, North Carolina. The move could provide the Carolina Panthers and owner David Tepper with 55 acres for a new home stadium in Uptown Charlotte. Since Tepper’s acquisition of the Carolina Panthers in 2018, new stadium talks have taken center stage.
Changes are coming to Bank of America Stadium as well. The Carolina Panthers recently announced that they will be adding eight new field level suites in the west end zone of Bank of America Stadium. The organization has considered adding a retractable roof to Bank of America Stadium in an effort to help the city draw marquee events like the Super Bowl and Men’s Final Four. Bank of America Stadium will also soon become home to a second tenant; a Major League Soccer team. David Tepper will own the MLS team as well.
The team’s new practice facility in Rock Hill, South Carolina is slated to open in 2022. Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company is located on South Clarkson Street near Charlotte's Gateway District. After the Carolina Panthers decide on which direction they’ll take regarding a home stadium, the construction of a mixed-use entertainment district could also soon follow. Teams such as the Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, and Milwaukee Bucks have shown the value of such districts when built outside of professional sports venues.
