Steve Ballmer, former CEO of Microsoft and owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, has agreed to purchase Inglewood, California’s The Forum for $400 million. The Forum currently serves as a music venue, and was home to both the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Kings from 1967 to 1999. The acquisition was made via a newly formed partnership between Steve Ballmer and Dennis Wong called CAPSS, LLC. Dennis Wong currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Los Angeles Clippers.

The location of The Forum was an obstacle that prevented Ballmer from building the Los Angeles Clippers their own arena in Inglewood. The Los Angeles Clippers currently share the Staples Center as the third-wheel with the Los Angeles Lakers and the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings. The Staples Center is the only arena in North America that is home to three professional sports teams. The Madison Square Garden Company is headed by James Dolan; owner of both the New York Knicks and the New York Rangers. Steve Ballmer has stated that The Forum will not be torn down, and will remain a live music venue.

The site of the future Los Angeles Clippers’ arena is currently under an environmental review conducted by the city of Inglewood. The arena site is located less than two miles from The Forum, and will be part of an entertainment complex located off of West Century Boulevard. The entertainment complex will also be home to the Los Angeles Clippers’ corporate offices, practice facility, and public outdoor spaces. The Los Angeles Clippers’ lease with the Staples Center will expire at the end of the 2023-2024 NBA season.
