Oracle Park, home of the San Francisco Giants, has long been considered one of the most popular stadiums in Major League Baseball. Now, the Giants organization are upgrading Oracle Park with the addition of an outfield scoreboard that will be three times the size of its current scoreboard. The scoreboard will be the first 4K scoreboard in Major League Baseball and will resemble the size of the scoreboard at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

The primary upgrade the new scoreboard will provide will be the ability to provide different information to different demographics of fans simultaneously. For example, on one side of the screen, kids will be entertained with a segment dedicated to children while game statistics will be provided on another section of the scoreboard. The current scoreboard (Mitsubishi Diamond Vision) was first installed just before the 2007 MLB season, and was one of the smallest and oldest scoreboards in Major League Baseball. Mitsubishi will be installing the new scoreboard after beating out Daktronics; a company that has installed many scoreboards at professional sports stadiums.

The scoreboard will costly nearly $10M to install and will measure nearly 11,000 square feet in size. Nevertheless, the scoreboard will still fall short in terms of size to the scoreboards at Progressive Field (Cleveland Indians) and T-Mobile Park (Seattle Mariners). San Francisco Giants fans will be able to get their first glimpse of the new scoreboard on March 25, 2019 when the Giants host the Oakland Athletics for a Spring Training game. The San Francisco Giants front office is hoping that the updated technology will help boost the attendance at Oracle Park which has declined significantly over the last two seasons.

The San Francisco Giants have also announced that they will be moving the start times of weeknight home games from 7:15 PM to 6:45 PM. The Giants announced last season that they would not be moving their bullpens to the outfield as they could not find room for them. The two bullpens at Oracle Park are currently located down the 1st and 3rd baselines.
