Arrowhead Stadium has long been known as one of the best NFL stadiums for tailgating. Several weeks ago, the Kansas City Chiefs announced they would be making a major change to their tailgating policy. Beginning immediately, football fans will be required to either enter Arrowhead Stadium or leave the stadium grounds after kickoff. This change has angered Kansas City Chiefs fans, however, the Chiefs organization is trying to avoid liability issues after a 2013 incident in which a fan died after a fight in the Arrowhead Stadium parking lot.

Fans that don’t leave the Arrowhead Stadium property after kickoff will be cited by the Kansas City Police for trespassing. Same day parking for Arrowhead Stadium is priced at $60 per vehicle. Cheaper parking passes are available if purchased in advance. Could this move also be an effort to increase the attendance at Arrowhead Stadium for Kansas City Chiefs home games? To say that NFL attendance is thriving would be a lie.

Many Kansas City Chiefs fans believe that they should be able to continue tailgating after kickoff if they have a ticket to the game. After all, the car will remain parked until the game is complete. Tailgating rules in the National Football League will vary from stadium to stadium. The Green Bay Packers have some of the most laid back tailgating rules in the National Football League at Lambeau Field. Only time will tell if this new policy change will have a negative impact on Kansas City Chiefs’ home attendance.
