Coors Field has been through several changes over the last few seasons as the Colorado Rockies organization aim to improve and modernize the stadium. Recent additions include The Rooftop in upper center field, upgrades to the club level and club level concessions, and a new scoreboard in left center field. Up next will be the construction of a mixed-use development in the west parking lot which is located on the corner of 19th and Wazee Streets in downtown Denver.

The mixed-use development is expected to consist of 144K square feet of entertainment space and will include the following.

  • The Colorado Rockies Hall of Fame
  • A parking garage
  • Retail shops and office spaces
  • The construction of more than 100 condos
  • New bars and restaurants

The development will serve as centerpiece to Denver’s nightlife and will host concerts, festivals and other outings year around. The attractions would be built into two buildings; one standing 11 stories and another standing 13 stories. The two buildings will be accompanied by a circular plaza that would allow fans to congregate before and after games. Developers are expected to have a groundbreaking ceremony for the future development at the conclusion of the summer. Before that can happen, the land will have to be approved for rezoning by the city of Denver.

The land the mixed-use development will be built on is owned by the Denver Metropolitan Major League Baseball Stadium District who also own Coors Field. The Colorado Rockies signed a new 30-year lease with the Denver Metropolitan Major League Baseball Stadium District in 2017 that will keep the team at Coors Field through the 2047 Major League Baseball season.

The Colorado Rockies are expected to team up with Stantec, a design company headquartered in Alberta, Canada to bring the development to life. A primary goal of the Colorado Rockies is to make sure that the new development will blend in with the rest of the LODO neighborhood. The development would hopefully be completed in time for the 2020 Major League Baseball season.
