Summary

  • Looking at the list, the oldest NFL stadiums obviously cost the least to construct. The only exception would be Soldier Field, the oldest of the thirty NFL stadiums. Soldier Field, home of the Chicago Bears, was re-constructed in 2003 at a cost of $632 million. The original construction cost in 1924 was an estimated $13 million.
  • The Mercedes Benz Superdome, home of the New Orleans Saints, received more than $193 million in renovations after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005.
  • Metlife Stadium is the only NFL stadium to host two NFL franchises; the New York Giants and New York Jets. The Metrodome in Minneapolis is currently defunct after the Minnesota Vikings declined to renew their lease- the Minnesota Twins now play at Target Field, their brand new ballpark.
  • Hard Rock Stadium is now only occupied by the Miami Dolphins after Major League Baseball's Miami Marlins left in 2012.
  • Nine of the thirty NFL stadiums play their home games indoors.
  • The two most expensive NFL stadiums to erect also have the highest capacity; Metlife Stadium in New York and AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
