For the 2nd straight season, the Philadelphia Phillies beat out the New York Yankees for the lead in Major League Baseball attendance. 9 teams surpassed the coveted 3 million fan mark for the entire season. 7 teams boasted a per game capacity rate of more than 80%. The Red Sox attendance mark was by far the most impressive in 2012 since Fenway Park is one of the smallest ballparks in Major League Baseball. Marlins Park opened for the 2012 season as the league's newest ballpark. It marked a new beginning for the Marlins franchise, they now had their own home and changed their name from the Florida Marlins to the Miami Marlins. The Marlins also went from 1.5 million fans in attendance in 2011 to 2.2 million in 2012.

The 2nd largest jump in attendance for the 2012 season was the Los Angeles Dodgers who went from 2.9 million in 2011 to 3.3 million in 2012. The largest decline in attendance for the 2012 was the Minnesota Twins who went from 3.1 million in 2011 to 2.7 million in 2012.
