As long as I'm close to the action, I'm usually fine when I visit these ballparks. (Been to 8 so far). I sat in row AA thinking it would be the first row but turns out it was maybe the 9th or so row. Could barely see the , jumbo tron in right center field so those poor folks sitting past row AA probably couldn't see it that well thanks to the batter's eye view area in center field. So shoot for the single lettered rows in section 147. Other than that, the seats are extremely tight, so if you're over 6'3, you're going to have a lot of trouble finding comforts in the outfield sections.

I've lived in Tampa for five years. I love the Rays and I love baseball but I just have never liked Tropicana Field. Yes it is air conditioned so that's a plus but it just does not have the feel of a major league ballpark. I grew up going to the Kauffman stadium in Kansas City and when you were there, you knew you were in a gem of a ballpark. Tropicana can't even compare but not all venues were created equally.

To give you an idea what the view of the field is like from section 147, here is a Youtube video shot from there during a Rays/New York Yankees game at Tropicana Field.
