The excellent layout and small rows still allows for Met fans to see the field well from these seats. I sat about 7 rows up earlier this season for an Atlanta Braves game and was happy with the view I got. When you sit anywhere on the Promenade level, all you should really be concerned about is avoiding obstructions like the railing, foul pole, etc. The seats all give fans enough leg room (depending on how tall you are). I would have liked more width to the seats but the person next to me was petite so it wasn't a big deal. And there were cup holders at our seats so I enjoyed the game.
Only downsides to this area is feeling far from the field and dealing with the drunks you encounter on the upper level. But the fan atmosphere isn't what it once was at Shea Stadium so you should be fine allowing your children to sit in 524 or it's neighboring sections.
This place mimics the old Ebbets Field, so I'm told. It's sad to think that if the Dodgers had their stadium built in Flushing as planned, they probably would have never left and the Mets would have never been born. I love being able to go thru the Jackie Robinson Rotunda and see the museum, other sights down there reminding me of what once was.

To give you an idea what the view of the field is like from section 524, here is a Youtube video shot from row 15 during a Mets game at Citi Field.
