These were my seats on September 8th for the Detroit Tigers game. There was a big crowd that night so we ended up settling for seats on the upper deck since all of the other good seats were bought up.
The view is only average since 509 is pretty deep in the upper tier of left field. The last few rows are protected from the overhang which gives some good shade; the Sun is hot in Southern California in case you didn't already know. Our seats were cramped which made us think twice about leaving for the concession since we were in the very middle. Beer hawkers frequent the upper deck enough but not nearly as frequently as the bottom level.
There are four ramps to use to reach the upper deck and all four are nestled along the first and third base lines. You may also use either escalator near Gates 1 and 4.
Outside of these seats was a stand called 'Grandstand' and it has all of the typical ballpark food and this particular stand can be found all over the ballpark. The Big League Nachos were worth the money and with a lack of restaurants immediately outside of the ballpark, it's almost a given that you'll be buying concession items. I think in the future, they're going to start allowing Angels fans to bring their own food into the ballpark.
All in all, I think 509 is a decent seat selection but far from the best at Angel Stadium. If you want to go all out, buy seats in the Diamond Club.

To give you an idea what the view of the field is like from section 509, here is a Youtube video shot from there before an Angels game at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.
