The Toronto Maple Leafs have one of the largest and most passionate fan bases in the National Hockey League. In fact, the demand for Toronto Maple Leafs tickets is so high that the NHL has even considered adding a second NHL team in Toronto. During the 2017-2018 regular season, the Toronto Maple Leafs averaged just over 19,000 fans per game (102% capacity) at the Air Canada Centre. In lieu of the upcoming Game 3 of the 1st round series vs. the Boston Bruins, the general public were only left with 96 tickets to purchase. The reason?

More than 90% of the seats at the Air Canada Centre belong to season ticket holders. The bulk of the remaining available tickets were given to the Toronto Maple Leafs staff members and the players’ families. The kicker was allowing season ticket holders and members of the “Leafs Nation Fan Club” to purchase some 600+ additional tickets during two presale events on Ticketmaster. Of the remaining 96 tickets for the general public, the majority of them have obstructed views of the ice or are for the last rows of the arena. Toronto Maple Leafs fans were pissed to say the least. The average ticket price for a Toronto Maple Leafs home game during round 1 of the playoffs is a whopping $543. That’s impressive for a team that hasn’t won the Stanley Cup since 1967 albeit having 13 Stanley Cups in it’s trophy case.

How did the Toronto Maple Leafs organization make it up to the fan base? By giving away 200 free tickets for the Ford Fan Zone (standing room only area) as well as tickets to Maple Leafs Square, a viewing area outside of Air Canada Centre. Ah…better than nothing. Toronto Maple Leafs fans should not expect the ticket scenario to improve if the team advances further into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, either. The ticket prices will only increase both for season ticket holders at the box office as well as on the secondary ticket market websites like Stubhub.
