Comcast Spectacor will be contributing $250 million towards the renovation of the Wells Fargo Center, home of the Philadelphia 76ers (NBA) and Philadelphia Flyers (NHL). The arena is now 22 years old and renovating the venue made much more sense than building a new arena for the two teams. An estimate for a new arena exceeded $700 million. Any fan that has visited other NHL and NBA arenas know that there is currently nothing that separates the Wells Fargo Center from the rest of the pack.

Renovations to the Wells Fargo Center will include

  • The removal of the luxury skyboxes on the upper level.
  • New concourse floors and the concourse hallways will be widened.
  • The addition of new flat screens throughout the concourse for fans.
  • New locker rooms for players.
  • New club lounges on the mezzanine level.
  • Courtside suites will be added to the main level.
  • Replacement of the seats throughout the arena.
  • New concession stands will be added with brand new food and beverage offerings.
  • New windows will be added inside the arena that will give fans a view of downtown Philadelphia.
  • A new sound system with the latest technology.

Local taxpayers will not be asked to spend a dime on the arena’s renovations which is a rare occurrence these days. After paying off the arena’s construction debt in 2016, Comcast Spectacor were able to save the money needed to renovate the Wells Fargo Center out of pocket. The renovations are expected to be completed in 2021 and work will be done to the arena during the summer months while both leagues are out of season. The Wells Fargo Center is currently hailed as one of the busiest arenas in the United States. Comcast Spectacor is a subsidiary of Comcast and oversees the operations of the Wells Fargo Center.
