Boston Garden was the long time home of the NBA's Boston Celtics and the NHL's Boston Bruins. The legendary arena opened on November 17th, 1928 as "Boston Madison Square Garden". It was given this name because it was designed by the same man that designed Madison Square Garden, Tex Rickard. Rickard was the founder of the New York Rangers and was also a boxing promoter. Years later, the arena's name was shortened to simply the "Boston Garden". Very few stadiums and arenas in professional sports could top the Boston Garden in regards to it's history and success. The Boston Bruins were one of the "Original Six" charter members of the NHL. The Boston Celtics have won more NBA championships than any other team with 17 NBA titles.

The first Boston Bruins home game was played in November of 1928 when the Bruins hosted their bitter rivals, the Montreal Canadiens, another Original Six franchise. The Bruins would also play the Montreal Canadiens in their final game at Boston Garden in an exhibition in September of 1995. The final Boston Celtics home game at Boston Garden was played on May 5th, 1995 when the Celtics hosted the Orlando Magic. Horace Grant of the Orlando Magic was the final player to score a basket at Boston Garden. Both the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics began playing at the FleetCenter next door in 1995. The FleetCenter's name was changed to the TD Banknorth Garden in 2005, a name it still holds today.

Boston Garden was a busy hub in the city of Boston for many years. Not only was it connected to Boston's North Station (train station) but it was also connected to the Hotel Madison, one of the largest hotels in the city. Whether it was the short ice rink or the easily recognizable Parquet floor, Boston Garden was every bit as unique as Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. It has been 20 years since either team has played at this wonderful shrine. We wanted to give both Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics fans the opportunity to relive a few memories. Enjoy!
