The Chicago Cubs announced last week that they will be renumbering every seat at Wrigley Field as part of the 1060 Project. For fans that have been to Wrigley Field for a game, you’ve noticed how unorthodox the seating arrangements are compared to other Major League Baseball stadiums. “Aisles” at Wrigley Field will now be called “sections”. For Chicago Cubs season ticket holders, the only thing that will change is the seat number on your ticket.
The upper level sections at Wrigley Field will now be designated as the 300’s and 400’s. At the moment, those sections are numbered as 400’s and 500’s. The Budweiser Bleachers at Wrigley Field will become the 500 sections. For regular season home games in 2019, the Budweiser Bleachers will remain general admission seating. However, for Chicago Cubs playoff games, the Budweiser Bleachers will follow an assigned seating model. The Wrigley Field bleachers have always been general admission seating, so this is a big change.
Fans with upper level tickets are required to utilize two ramps to get to their seats; the left field ramps and the right field ramps. An “L” or “R” will now be printed on upper level tickets to direct fans to the ramp they should use. The 1060 Project will also include the addition of several new club areas for Chicago Cubs fans and a renovated clubhouse for the visiting team. The project is the last phase of renovations to Wrigley Field which originally began back in 2014.
The reason for the change to the current seat numbering system is because the Chicago Cubs front office wanted the Wrigley Field seating chart to resemble the setup at other Major League Baseball stadiums. The current aisle/row/seat numbering system was modeled after Riverfront Stadium/Cinergy Field, former home of the Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals. The Tribune Co. implemented the numbering system when they purchased the Chicago Cubs back in the 1980’s.

Other Changes Fans Will See At Wrigley Field In 2019
- The upper level will be expanded and will now include an outdoor concourse with concession stands.
- 60% more restrooms have been added on the upper level.
- The concession area and outdoor patio underneath the Wrigley Field press box will become part of The Catalina Club, a new premium suite.
- The addition of the Maker’s Mark Barrel Room, a private seating area behind the visitor’s dugout on the first base side.
- The addition of The W Club, a private seating area behind the Chicago Cubs’ dugout on the third base side.
- A new club at Addison and Sheffield will replace the Drafts King Fantasy Zone, formerly the Captain Morgan Club.
- A new deck will be added to the left field bleachers and will offer standing room only views of the game as well as portable concessions.
Wrigley Field is one of the most popular ballparks in Major League Baseball. For those that hate to see the venue change, we feel your pain. Truth be told, the Chicago Cubs would be leaving millions of dollars in revenue on the table by not offering more premium seating to Chicago area corporations.
