The Budweiser Brewhouse hosted a gathering on Sunday titled “Eat, Drink & Chill” in which two people were tragically shot by an unknown suspect. One of those shot, 38-year-old Corey Hall of Florissant, Missouri, passed away while the other victim is still in critical condition. The suspect is still at large and St. Louis police have yet to give a description of the assailant. Corey Hall was a newlywed, the father of two young girls and was celebrating his birthday. The cause of the shooting was unknown and began when an argument broke out between two people attending the event.

There were several security cameras at Ballpark Village that likely caught the identity of the suspect; police are still interviewing witnesses to get a better grasp on what led to the shooting. According to the St. Louis Cardinals, the same event had been held at Ballpark Village over the last three years with no incidents. There are no metal detectors at Budweiser Brewhouse and patrons’ bags were not checked upon entering. The St. Louis Cardinals were out of town on Sunday and will return this week to host both the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox.

St. Louis County witnessed 99 homicides in 2017 which is nearly double 2013's total. The county also witnessed more than 200 opioid-related deaths in 2017. To say that St. Louis area law enforcement agencies have their hands full would be an understatement.

Ballpark Village is a mixed-use development and entertainment district that connects to Busch Stadium in downtown St. Louis. The first phase of the development was completed in 2014 and the second phase is currently under construction. Ballpark Village's primary attractions include Midwest Live, Budweiser Brewhouse, the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame and Museum, Cardinals Nation Restaurant and PBR St. Louis. Ballpark Village was one of the first mixed-use developments built in Major League Baseball and has many other organizations following suit.
