The Los Angeles Dodgers will be hosting the 2020 MLB All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers haven’t hosted the midsummer classic since 1980. 2020 will mark the fourth time that the Dodgers have hosted an all-star game; the first two were played at Ebbets Field (1949) in Brooklyn and Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (1959). The MLB All-Star Game is typically reserved for the Major League Baseball teams with the newest stadium but the Los Angeles Dodgers organization have recently renovated Dodger Stadium.

Recent upgrades to Dodger Stadium include

  • The widening of the stadium concourses.
  • The creation of two new entrance areas outside of Dodger Stadium.
  • The addition of two new bars that overlook each team’s bullpen.
  • The addition of a new sound system and video screens.
  • Renovations of the player locker rooms and the addition of batting cages inside each team’s clubhouse.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are also expected to add more upgrades to Dodger Stadium before 2020’s all-star game but have not been announced to the details. Other events that will be held during all-star week include the Futures Game, the Home Run Derby and the MLB Fan Fest.

The announcement was made by MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred earlier this week during a press conference at Dodger Stadium. The 2018 MLB All-Star Game will be played at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. The 2019 MLB All-Star Game will be played at Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Indians. Southern California also hosted the 2016 MLB All-Star Game (Petco Park) as well as the 2010 MLB All-Star Game (Angel Stadium of Anaheim).
